Learning Outside the Classroom

At Astley CE Primary School, we pride ourselves in enabling all children to have regular learning opportunities outside of the classroom. Located in the heart of the Worcestershire countryside, we make the most of our beautiful surroundings to offer all children hands-on learning outside of the traditional classroom setting.

Weekly Forest School Session

Forest School is a highlight for all children who attend Astley CE Primary. The sessions give pupils the chance to explore the natural world, learn practical skills and build confidence – all whilst having fun outdoors! Whatever activity the children choose to take part in, Forest School will help to develop their creativity, independence and critical thinking skills that supports their classroom work.

Elevating the Curriculum

Learning Outside the Classroom isn’t restricted to just Forest School sessions! We enrich the curriculum with off-site visits, local trips and residentials. We also regularly invite guest speakers into school, run workshops or host special themed days to ensure our children are exposed to a variety of learning experiences, new ideas and exposure to the diverse and cultural world that we live in. By extending our learning, outside of the classroom, children at Astley develop their personal, social and emotional learning as well as valuable life skills such as resilience, teamwork and a love of learning. Children learn to Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven,’   Matthew 5 V16

Working Towards the LOtC Mark

Back in 2022, we took part in the Waterways, Wildlife and Wellbeing Project which has harnessed our Learning Outside the Classroom (LOtC) journey. This has continued with access to the WWW Legacy Project, providing further support to help us achieve the LOtC Mark, a nationally recognised award. This accreditation reflects out on-going dedication to providing high-quality, engaging experience both in and beyond the classroom.
