Music

Music is the art of creating and performing vocal, instrumental or mechanical sounds that have rhythm, melody or harmony.

The aim of the music curriculum at Astley C.E. Primary School is to ensure that all children from Reception to Y6 develop a curiosity for the subject, as well as an understanding, acceptance and importance of all types of music, and a respect for the role that music may wish to be expressed in any person’s life.

Our pupils will have the opportunity to gain a firm understanding of how to identify and produce music through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a wide variety of historical periods, styles, traditions, and musical genres. There will be a clear progression of skills and knowledge which involves learning about how to create music, know about instruments and learn about musicians and composers.

We aim to celebrate the diversity of music by linking learning across our curriculum themed topics, providing children with a knowledge rich context. Opportunities to share music with others is actively sought, including The Big Sing in Worcester and Young Voices in Birmingham. Pupils will have the opportunity to perform regularly in class assemblies, Christmas and Summer shows and church celebrations. We encourage a range of musicians and visits to our school.
